Packing Over Kill

Hello out there! I hope you had an amazing weekend! I was in Northern California visiting my husbands family. It was extremely cold!!!!! Makes me realize just how good I have it here in Huntington. It was nice to see friends and family as well as meet some new friends! When I used to travel for a weekend getaway, I could be seen lugging 2 suitcases full of clothes and shoes around. Not great for my back…. I was the girl who over planned and packed for every possible situation. Maybe it’ll be cold, maybe it’ll be hot. Maybe I’ll want to go to the gym. Maybe I’ll want to go out to a bar or club. You name the scenario and I had it covered. The problem was it was so inconvenient to carry around the extra weight I didn’t need. So I have taught myself to plan a little better these days. I do my very best to keep it to a carry on suitcase or bag for a weekend getaway. Now this may sound silly, but I started to look on Pinterest for packing lists so that I could stay within a certain “necessities” guideline. I found it super helpful to write out or print out exactly what I needed. Needless to say I am a very visual person. I then look up the weather to where I am going so that I may pack accordingly. This weekend was cold and rainy so I knew warmer weather clothes such as dresses were not an option. I also planned by what I would be doing when I got there which consisted of moving stuff out of storage, going to a child’s birthday party and going to a pub for St. Patty’s day. So for moving I packed leggings, a tee shirt and tennis shoes. For the birthday I packed dressier leggings (Velvet spanx), a cute shirt, a denim jacket and rain boots. For the pub I packed a green tee, jeans a jacket and converse. And lastly for my ride home a pair of leggings and a tee shirt. All these outfits were light weight, especially the leggings, and easy to fit into one bag. Normally I wouldn’t pack boots but the area was experiencing heavy rains so I thought it necessary this time. I was even able to do a little shopping while up there, and my purchases fit comfortably because I had the room to spare. I highly suggest looking at Pinterest for guides and how to’s when packing to make your life easier. They have so many printable freebies!!! Have a plan so that you don’t waste space with unnecessary items. I hope this helps! Let me know your tips and tricks by commenting below!
