Hi everyone! I wanted to Jump on here and share my recent experience with sugaring! Don’t know what that is? That’s ok, I didn’t either. It’s a form of beauty very similar to waxing, only it uses 3 simple ingredients. Sugar, lemon juice and water. Yep just those 3 and it’s so super effective!
A friend of mine arranged for us to visit a sweet little shop in Seal Beach, CA called Sugar Coated. The shop is full of plants and super clean and bright! Everyone was friendly and excited to have us there and I swear whoever decorated the place is a genius and I need them to come over and do my apartment next! I decided I would get my arms done. Now keep in mind that I do have hairy arms but because I am blonde you can’t really see them, but I do and it bugs me. My upper arm hair is also very fine. The price point for full arms is about $50. My esthetician, Ariel, was so kind and explained the process in detail before we started. I couldn’t believe there is only 3 ingredients!
The sugar sits on the warmer until ready. Ariel examined my arms and then applied baby powder. She did this to not only make it easier to see my blonde hair but to also help protect the skin. She then applied gloves and made one little ball of sugar paste. Unlike waxing where many strips are used, sugaring only needs one helping to complete a whole area. It’s also not boiling hot like wax so you don’t have to fear someone burning your skin. She then spread the paste in a downward motion along my hair line and began pulling up the other way to remove the hair. It’s a little bit ouchy but hey, it is your hair being ripped from your body! All she had to do was manipulate the paste between rounds to keep it from dripping. She used the same ball over and over for one arm making it very cost effective I’m sure. I could just imagine how much of my hair was in that little ball! Keep in mind I also have tattoos making it even harder to see the fine hair but somehow she managed to get it all!
After we were done, Ariel gave me a hot towel to sooth and clean. I was surprised because there was no left over residue like you get from wax. She also gave me sugar scrub for the shower stating that exfoliating with the scrub will prevent ingrown hairs in the future. She also explained that the more you keep up with sugaring, the finer and more sparse your hair will become. Sounds good to me!!! My arms were a little soar in certain places for a couple of days but are so smooth! I also have sensitive skin and usually am prone to allergic reactions and bruising, but since the ingredients are limited I had a good experience and no issues.
I would highly suggest looking into this all natural method, and if you live in the OC area please go visit Sugar Coated ! They will do your whole body and even give you a gorgeous spray tan! If you have any other questions please leave a comment!
